A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY!
OMHA stats show that the Lambeth Lancers 2 are in second place in the league; but today the Dorchester Dragons 3 gave them a run for their money.

After paying their $4, the fans took their seats as the DRAGONS leapt onto the ice for a game we anticipated would be a tough one. Luckily, we were on the new pad and the fans could spread out a bit and not have to huddle (like we do on the old pad) under the one heater that may or may not be on. The kids pushed it hard for two laps and took their position to start their well choreographed pre-game warm up. It did not go unnoticed by our players that the Lancers were a  team with some BIG kids on it, and that can feel a little intimidating I can imagine.....but we were about to give the a run for their money!

The DRAGONS' starting line up assumed their position and the puck dropped. Anticipating some dominant play by the Lancers, the DRAGONS were actually all over them. The play initially went to the Lancers' zone and the DRAGONS rang off a few shots but all were saved. The Lancers win the next drop and head into our end. A shot is taken and flitters just by Awesome Alex's left skate and the score is 1-0 Lancers. Only 69 seconds later, the Lancers net their second goal. Despite the 2 early goals, Alex "Dutsy" Dutton makes some fantastic and skilled saves this game. The DRAGONS don't let this get them down though. At 5:15 in the first, the DRAGONS pull their moves and Keegan-the-Kool nets himself a top-shelf blast after taking an absolutely precise pass from Crafty Calista. 2-1 now. The Lancers make many attempts at our end but are totally denied by our killer defensemen Matthew "The Wall " Lindsay, Danglin' Daniel, Terrific Ty and Wicked Jacob Webster! The Lancers don't score again this period but the DRAGONS sure do! Only 2 minutes left, Notorious Nathan intercepts a centre ice pass by the Lancers and heads to their end. He sees Keegan on his left and discretely makes that pass right at the blue line. Keegan carries it over the line and Nathan moves to the net. Keegan lets loose, it's saved, but... who's playing his position???? Nathan is...... and he buries the rebound with a one timer that would make any coach proud. The period ends and the score is 2-2.

The kids get some brief words from our three coaches, Bill, Bill and Bill and head to centre ice to start the second. Only 2 goals are scored this period but can you guess by who? Unfortunately, the Lancers get one 3 minutes into the second and the DRAGONS answer with another at 4:19 when Keegan-the-Kool takes a wrister which is saved.......what happens next is awesome. Keegan does not give up and sees the puck hit the ice, but far on the other side of the net. He leaps over to that side and shoots mid air...... GOAL!!!!!! The play remains rather equal but we can see the DRAGONS tiring a bit. The third ends and the game is still tied at 3-3.

The third is the period of all periods this game. All in all, 5 goals are scored and the outcome is not what we were hoping for. Nothing happens other than some great minor hockey action for the first 5 minutes of the third; but then the flood gates open and the goals just-a-keep on comin'. The Lancers score 2 goals within 3 minutes and we can see the DRAGONS are feeling low. This turns around when Keegan nets himself his third of the game. HAT TRICK!!!!! Parents in the stands are encouraging those with hats on to throw them on the ice, but sadly, no hats were thrown. Not long after that, Cool Hand Clint goes coast to coast, dropping the shoulder to the left but going to the right, as he deeks the entire Lancer team. He makes it to the net but does not get off a shot that makes the red light glow. The DRAGONS are behind by one and there is only 5 minutes left. We're not sure if it is fatigue or something else but in the next 5 minutes the Lancers score 3 goals nearly back to back ending the game with a 7-4 score.

A very well played game by our DRAGONS! Seeing the happy faces in the dressing room after showed us that they thought so too!

GO DRAGONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
