Dragons Win OMHA
Submitted By Paul Pettipiece on Monday, March 30, 2015
The Dorchester BB Dragons capped off an incredible season with an OMHA Championship win on Saturday night with a game 5 win over the Huntsville Otters at the Flight Exec Centre. The Dragons forced a game 5 after winning in Huntsville 1-0 on Friday night.

In the championship series, the Dragons fell behind early in the series after a game 1 loss of 4-2 and a 6-5 overtime loss in game 2. Even after blowing a 5-1 lead in game 2, the Dragons remained confident and upbeat that they could make a comeback.

It should be noted that in game 3, the Dragons trailed 2-0 early and 3-2 going into the 3rd period. The Dragons scored 3 unanswered goals before hanging on for the 5-4 win.

In Huntsville on Friday night, the Dragons entered into a hostile environment but didn’t allow the large Huntsville crowd anything to cheer about. The lone Dorchester goal was scored midway through the 2nd period. The Otters and Dragons continued to play at a quick pace but the Dragons played a complete defensive game until the final buzzer.

On Saturday night, in front of a very supportive Dorchester crowd the two teams hit the ice for a highly anticipated game 5. Huntsville would strike first midway through the first period but the Dragons would respond with a goal of their own before the first period was over. The Dragons then went on to score 3 quick goals in the 2nd before the Otters scored a goal of their own late in the period. With a 4-2 lead going into the break, the Dragons were determined to play their best 15 minutes of hockey of the season and hold on to the 2 goal lead. A full team effort stifled any chances that the Otters might have and the Dragons completed the series comeback with a 4-2 victory.

The Dragons finished the season with a record of 60 wins, 13 losses and 4 ties. In addition to the OMHA Championship, the Dragons won the St Thomas tournament, Tillsonburg tournament and Watford Regional Silver Stick. Another season highlight was a 2nd place finish at the Port Huron International Silver Stick with their lone loss coming against the OMHA ‘A’ champion Welland Tigers. After a first round OMHA bye, the Dragons defeated St Mary’s, Mooretown, Glanbrook and Huntsville en route to the Championship.
