Season Format
Each child will be assigned to a team.  There will be 4 teams (10-11 skaters per team) and each team will be a mix of ages.

Ice time starts Saturday, October 1st.  We will use the ice time on October 1st and 2nd to evaluate the skates to split them evenly between teams.  The schedule for October 1st and 2ndis:
               Saturday, October 1st, 12:30pm – skaters born in 2010
               Saturday, October 1st, 1:30pm – skaters born in 2009
               Sunday, October 2nd, 3:30pm – skaters born in 2010
               Sunday, October 2nd, 4:30pm – skaters born in 2009

For the remainder of the season, teams will be scheduled based on their team.  Once the schedule has been set, I will communicate by email and post it on the website.

Regular ice times for the Tyke division are:
Saturdays, 12:30pm or 1:30pm
Sundays, 3:30pm or 4:30pm

Practices will be held on Saturdays, and games (starting in December) will be held on Sundays.

Blue pucks will be used for all Tyke games/practices.  We will start to implement cross-ice games as well, as a requirement by the OMHA.

Team Schedule & Webpage

Each team has its own webpage on the DMHA site: http://dorchesterdragons.ca/

Your team schedule will be posted to this site.  Please sign up for the text message or email message if a change in schedule occurs.  Select your team from the home page per below.  Then scroll down to the bottom on the left side and select “manage subscriptions”.

RBC – Development Grant/Mike Cormier

DMHA was successful in receiving a development grant from RBC again this year.  The grant will be used to bring Mike Cormier in to run the skating development for the program during October and November.  Mike will lead the skating development for the Tyke division on Sundays.

As a result of receiving this grant, we will be running a “fun day” for skaters.  More details to follow.  We will also be responsible for reporting metrics, and therefore, will be surveying parents and collecting data throughout the year.

Head Coaches

The Tyke Head Coaches for this season are Kevin Bachert, Steve Brulotte, Brian Geerts, and Mark Nasvadi.

Each team will need an Assistant Coach, On-Ice Helper, Trainer and Manager.  If you are interested in one of these positions, please contact the Head Coach or myself.

Tyke Tournament Donation

Each DMHA team is responsible to donate a minimum donation for the DMHA hosted tournaments.  Managers (once established) for each team will collect a toonie from each parent.

Bond Hours

You are required to complete 4 bond hours per child registered with DMHA, to a maximum of 8 hours.  To sign up for bond positions, please refer to the website: http://dorchesterdragons.ca/Pages/1159/Bonds_Volunteers/

Name Bars

You will have the opportunity to order a name bar for the back of your child’s jersey.  Managers (once established) will coordinate the ordering, payment and distribution of name bars.  The cost is $12.

Yellow Tickets

During registration, you paid $100 for our yellow ticket. Lottery fundraiser.  Yellow tickets have not yet been distributed but are expected in early October.  Managers will ensure that they are distributed to all parents.

You can sell these tickets (keep the money you make) or fill them out yourself.  Completed tickets need to be dropped into the black drop box between the two rinks (hanging on the mural wall by the doors to the South rink, under the schedule TV).  The first draw is Nov 1st .  Please submit your tickets before that date.

Special Events & Black Outs

There are three times before Christmas where the ice has been blacked out for tournaments being held in Dorchester.  This means no regular practices on these weekends.  (October 29-30, November 12-13, November 26-27)

There is no hockey on Thanksgiving weekend and during the 2 week break at Christmas.

Reminders will be sent by email and posted on the website.
