Once again congratulations go out to our Atom LL2 team for making it to the finals in our second tournament of the year in Richmond Hill this past weekend!
Round robin play found the Dragons slotted in a pool with Oak Ridges Kings #1 and #3 as well as the Oro Thunder. Disciplined play in the first game by Dorchester forced the Kings #3 team to become frustrated and fall to the Dragons by a score of 5-2.
Following up on the success of the opening game the Dragons overpowered the Kings #1 team in the second game with a 6-1 victory. The final game of the round robin was a matchup with the Oro Thunder and after the Dragons skated out to a commanding 4-0 lead the Thunder stormed back with two goals of their own. Collecting themselves between periods proved to be the cure as the Dragons went on to the eventual 7-3 win.
The strong round robin play earned the Dragons first in their pool and a slot in the championship game on Sunday afternoon. Dorchester's dreams of bringing home back-to-back tournament gold was short lived however as they ran into stiff competition from the home town Oak Ridges Kings #2 team which earned it's way to the finals from the other pool. The championship game started out with hard fought battles at either end and a back and forth scoring frenzy but in the third period the wear and tear of the earlier games showed up for the Dragons as they were outscored in the final frame and fell to an 8-3 score.
The players should be proud of themselves for another solid tournament showing. In the end a great weekend of hockey, hotel, pool time, mini sticks and general fun was had by all.
