Expression of Interest – DMHA Select Teams
Dorchester Minor Hockey is currently exploring the potential to form Select Teams for the 2025–26 season.
At this time, we are gathering interest at the U11 and U15 levels, with the possibility of expanding to other age groups if enough interest exists.
Families in U11 and U15 have been emailed a link to an Expression of Interest Form, which must be completed by end of day, Tuesday, September 2nd.
This step is for planning purposes only and does not guarantee a team or roster spot.
What is “Selects”?
Select is an extension of Local League (LL)—not a replacement.
Players must:
1. Be rostered to a DMHA LL team and remain in good standing.
2. Understand that LL games and practices always come first.
3. Commit to playing on both their LL and Select team.
When can a Select team be formed?
1. Only after LL teams are formed and balanced.
2. A coach must express interest, be approved by the Board, and hold required certifications with a valid VSC.
How is the team determined?
1. Tryouts take place only after LL rosters are finalized.
2. Teams typically include 17 players (2 goalies, 15 skaters). OMHA rules do not allow AP (affiliate) players for Selects.
To ensure fairness across LL teams:
2 LL teams → max 60% from any one team
3 LL teams → max 40% from any one team
1 LL team → Select team cannot be formed
Activity Limits
1. Up to 4 tournaments per season (some teams may do fewer)
2. Up to 2 exhibition games per month (with approvals)
3. Practices must not conflict with LL schedules (generally every other week, unless the full team agrees otherwise)
Costs
Select participation comes with additional costs beyond LL registration. These may include:
Tryout/practice ice
Tournament entry fees
Referees and timekeepers for exhibitions
Uniform kits (home / away Jerseys & socks)
Development and travel expenses
All Select teams must follow DMHA’s financial accountability rules. Fundraising and sponsorship may be permitted with prior DMHA approval.
