BB, AE, LL - What does it all mean???
**Changes for the 2022-2023 Season

The Dorchester Minor Hockey Association (DMHA) is considered a "BB" (or double B) centre within the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA).  Each centre is classified based on its size within a certain boundary.  The classifications are AAA, AA, A, BB, B, CC,  C, DD, D.

The DMHA top Representative (Rep) or competitive team is our BB team.  For any DMHA BB team, the most competitive players (as determined by the appointed Head Coach and supporting individuals) are selected to its roster.  All DMHA BB teams play within the Shamrock Hockey League (  For league play DMHA BB teams will play against teams that may not share the same letter classification (i.e. BB), but for OMHA playdowns, we only play against BB (and possibly A) centres.  BB teams exist only at U9 and above.

**For the 2022-2023 Season - For the 2022-23 season, OMHA has made changes to the base category and division structure.  Current BB centres, including Dorchester, will be moved to the B base category.  That means that DMHA’s top rep team for the 2022-23 season will be play in the B division.

DMHA is a larger centre with registration numbers to support an additional Rep team, giving more kids a development opportunity to play at the rep level.  AE stands for Additional Entry.  DMHA has an AE team at all divisions, except for U9.  The AE team is the DMHA additional entry Rep team.

After players are selected for the BB team, players are then selected for the AE team. This is considered to be the next group of most competitive players for the given age division within the association.  The AE team also plays within the Shamrock Hockey League, but against other AE teams.

**For the 2022-2023 Season - For the 2022-23 season, OMHA is eliminating the AE division. The AE division will be integrated into the existing structure.  Dorchester’s AE teams will be moved to the C division of representative hockey.  That means that Dorchester’s second tier rep teams will play as C teams.

After both the BB and AE teams are selected, all remaining players will play on a Local League (LL) team.  There are typically 2 or 3 LL teams in each age division.  All LL teams (U9-U18) play in the Lambton-Middlesex Local League (  All LL teams (U9-U18) created to be "balanced" with an aim to have similar skill levels on each team.

All our teams (U7-U18) will travel to compete against other centres. This includes BB, AE and LL.

In most circumstances, interested players will try out for both BB and AE.  At U9 BB and U11 BB, players are entitled to 3 skates before any cuts are made, as per OMHA requirements.  At U13 BB, U15 BB and U18 BB, players are entitled to 2 skates before any cuts are made, as per DMHA policy.  Players are only entitled to 1 skate during AE tryouts.
