Novice and Below Program - 2019-2020 Season

The Dorchester Minor Hockey Association follows the Hockey Canada/Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) mandate at the Novice and Below levels, for age appropriate and modified ice programming.  The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) Implementation Guide has been used.

The focus at the Novice and Below levels will be skill development and fun.  This will be done through alignment of skaters with similar skill levels.  

**INFORMATION SESSIONS**
Parents are asked to attend one parent meeting (for each division they have a child registered).  Information sessions will be held on the following:
Mite/Jr. IP
1) Wednesday, September 18th, 7:00pm - Blue Line Room, Flight Exec Centre
2) Wednesday, September 25th, 7:00pm - Blue Line Room, Flight Exec Centre


Sr. IP
1) Wednesday, September 18th, 8:00pm - Blue Line Room, Flight Exec Centre
2) Wednesday, September 25th, 8:00pm - Blue Line Room, Flight Exec Centre


Minor Novice
1) Wednesday, September 18th, 8:30pm - Blue Line Room, Flight Exec Centre
2) Wednesday, September 25th, 8:30pm - Blue Line Room, Flight Exec Centre


Novice
Parent meetings will be held with players' respective teams.



Mite (2015 Birth Year)
Skating and hockey-related skills will be the focus at the Mite level.  Programming will challenge both the new skater as well as the skater with some experience.  Cross-ice hockey will be implemented.  Special events will be included for our youngest skaters during the season.  Ice times for the 2018-2019 season were Saturdays 10:30am-11:20am and Sunday 8:00am-8:50am (subject to change for the 2019-2020 season).

Jr. Initiation (2014 Birth Year)
Skating and hockey-related skills will be the focus at the Jr. Initiation (IP) level.  Programming will challenge both the new skater as well as the skater with some experience.  Cross-ice hockey will be implemented.  Special events will be included for our youngest skaters during the season.  Ice times for the 2018-2019 season were Saturdays 11:30am-12:20pm and Sunday 8:00am-8:50am (subject to change for the 2019-2020 season).

Sr. Initiation (2013 Birth Year)
Teams will be established based on similar skill levels.  Games will be scheduled throughout the season (October to March) with like teams/centres.  Teams will be made up of 9-11 players.  The format will be modified ice (cross-ice) games with 4 vs 4 skaters, plus goalies. There will be no score kept in any games and no set positions. Head Coaches will be confirmed by the DMHA Executive.  Assistant Coaches/Trainer/Manager positions will be filled by parent volunteers.  
 
Minor Novice (2012 Birth Year)
Teams will be established based on similar skill levels.  Games will be scheduled throughout the season (October to March) with like teams/centres through the Lambton Middlesex Local League (LMLL). Teams will play in a LMLL Division (1, 2, or 3) based on competitiveness. Teams will be made up of 9-11 players.  The format will be modified ice (half-ice) games with 4 vs 4 skaters, plus goalies. There will be no score kept in any games and no set positions. Head Coaches will be confirmed by the DMHA Executive. Assistant Coaches/Trainer/Manager positions will be filled by parent volunteers.

Novice (2011 Birth Year)
Tryouts will be held for the Novice BB (Rep/travel) team in September 2019. The Novice BB team will participate in the Shamrock Hockey League (pending final approval).  Players not selected for the Novice BB team will be placed on a Novice Local League team. The Novice Local League team(s) will play in the Lambton Middlesex Local League (LMLL).  Games will be scheduled throughout the season; half-ice format for October to December, full-ice format for January to March.  Teams will be made up of 16-18 players (pending final registration numbers).  The format will be modified ice (half-ice) games with 4 vs 4 skaters, plus goalies (October to December), and full ice games with 5 vs 5 skaters, plus goalies (January to March).  There will be no score kept prior to January. Head Coaches will be recommended to the DMHA Executive by the Coach Selection Committee. Assistant Coaches/Trainer/Manager positions will be filled by parent volunteers.  


BELOW NOVICE BOND POSITIONS
Mite Coordinator (2019-2020 Season)
Responsible for the organization and operation of the Mite Program, including, but not limited to:
-maintaining communication between the coaches, parents and the Vice President - Hockey Operations
-shall supervise all activities related to the Mite Program (uniform distribution, name bar orders, special events, year-end celebration)
-shall manage certification and scheduling of Mite Program On-Ice Helpers
-shall be responsible for communication of the schedule and schedule changes throughout the season
-shall perform any other duties assigned by the Vice President - Hockey Operations

Jr. Initiation Coordinator (2019-2020 Season)
Responsible for the organization and operation of the Jr. IP Program, including, but not limited to:
-maintaining communication between the coaches, parents and the Vice President - Hockey Operations
-shall supervise all activities related to the Jr. IP Program (uniform distribution, name bar orders, special events, year-end celebration)
-shall manage certification and scheduling of Jr. IP Program On-Ice Helpers
-shall be responsible for communication of the schedule and schedule changes throughout the season
-shall perform any other duties assigned by the Vice President - Hockey Operations


Sr. Initiation Coordinator (2019-2020 Season)
Responsible for the organization and operation of the Sr. IP Program, including, but not limited to:
-maintaining communication between the coaches, parents and the Vice President - Hockey Operations
-shall supervise all activities related to the Sr. IP Program (uniform distribution, name bar orders, special events, year-end celebration)
-shall manage certification of Coaches and other Bench Staff for the Sr. IP Program
-shall be responsible for communication of the schedule and schedule changes throughout the season
-shall perform any other duties assigned by the Vice President - Hockey Operations
